Underemployed?

FACT: The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports several unemployment numbers each month. U3 is the unemployment rate that is normally announced in the major media. In mid-2017 it stood at approximately 4.5%. The U6 rate, which includes those marginally employed, such as working part time when they want to work full time, was 9%. The difference between these two numbers is 4.5%, which is a rough measure of an underemployment rate. Not that this figure does not include people who are in jobs below their capabilities and earning far less than what they desire.

Being underemployed normally results in reduced income, prestige, and options.
